Give feedback a practical next step
Feedback should describe an observation and a manageable action. Avoid turning one mistake into a judgment about the learner.
Understand the idea
After a student reads, identify one secure part and one part to practise. Ask the student to show the change before the lesson ends. Use shared notes to preserve the next task, not a long list of faults that the student cannot prioritize.
