A timeline connects a dated claim to a source. Distinguish an exact date from an approximate period and avoid making uncertain dates appear precise.
Understand the idea
Begin with one museum object rather than an entire civilization. Read the catalogue’s date and location, including words such as probably or attributed. Put those qualifications into your timeline entry. A precise-looking graphic does not make a historical claim more certain.
