Read the short vowel kasrah
Kasrah appears below the letter and signals a short i vowel in these beginner examples. Its position makes it different from fathah.
Understand the idea
First identify the letter dots, then the vowel. In بِ, the baa dot and the kasrah are both below the body but serve different purposes. Cover the vowel briefly to name the letter; reveal it to read the syllable.
بِ · لِ · مِ
Put it into practice
Write each example and explain which mark supplies the vowel.
