Arabic reading · 10 MIN PRACTICE

Find your way across Arabic

Arabic words run from right to left. Begin by identifying the first letter on the right, then follow its neighbours. Numbers and English notes may use a different direction.

Understand the idea

A gap inside a word does not always mean a word has ended: some letters do not connect onward. Start with the whole written word, then trace its sequence on paper. Keep English explanations on a separate line so your eyes do not switch direction mid-word.

بَاب — baa, alif, baa

Put it into practice

Copy بَاب and place a small pencil arrow under it, pointing from the first baa toward the final baa.
