Understand breaks inside a word
The letters ا د ذ ر ز و do not connect onward to the next letter on their left. A word can therefore contain visible breaks.
Understand the idea
Compare باب with بيت. The alif interrupts joining in the first word. In the second, the letters can connect. Read each whole word before counting its parts, and do not insert a spoken pause just because the pen connection breaks.
بَاب · بَيْت
Put it into practice
Circle the alif in باب and explain why the final baa appears separately.
