Reading a hadith reference
A useful hadith reference identifies its collection and the numbering system used. Different editions may number the same report differently, so save the exact source alongside any quotation.

Study the distinction between the reported text and the chain through which it is transmitted. Evaluating either requires specialist knowledge; an attractive quotation graphic is not a substitute for a source.
